Home Sweet Home

I live in the semi arid desert region of West Texas called the Permian Basin. A road trip through our part of the country offers amazing views of the sky – bright golden sunrises and watercolor sunsets so immense that they take your breath away. The land is incredibly flat and sprinkled with mesquite trees, cactus and the occasional wild flower. Breaking the monotony of the landscape, oil wells, pump jacks and wind turbines accent the horizon. Cattle ranches spread far and wide sharing the natural resources that West Texas offers. The birthplace of a U. S. President and the home of "Friday Night Lights," Odessa offers a beauty all it's own. It is a good place to build a life.

TIME FOR A CHANGE

I started attending school in 1963. September through May ....... most recently, August through May........... year after year back to school. As a student, I completed twelve years of public school and five years of college. As an educator, I have taught music for twenty-nine years. Forty six years of my life have revolved around following the rules, regulations and deadlines set by others. My days have been divided into periods of time surrounded by the ringing of a school bell. I have done my best to resist the urge to by "tardy." I have learned the required formulas, expressed myself with perfect grammar, walked in line single file, and have "played well with others" (most of the time.) It feels that the time has come to go in a different direction now. Think about the time I've invested in formal education: forty six years; 8,280 days; 66,240 hours....... it's mind boggling. I think it's time. It's to for me to make the rules and regulations, time to design my own calendar, time to turn off the school bells and time to forget "playing well with others." I think I am ready to be tardy any time I want to. I think I'll start soon.
