Home Sweet Home

I live in the semi arid desert region of West Texas called the Permian Basin. A road trip through our part of the country offers amazing views of the sky – bright golden sunrises and watercolor sunsets so immense that they take your breath away. The land is incredibly flat and sprinkled with mesquite trees, cactus and the occasional wild flower. Breaking the monotony of the landscape, oil wells, pump jacks and wind turbines accent the horizon. Cattle ranches spread far and wide sharing the natural resources that West Texas offers. The birthplace of a U. S. President and the home of "Friday Night Lights," Odessa offers a beauty all it's own. It is a good place to build a life.

LET'S TALK ABOUT RETIREMENT

Last May, when I announced that my teaching career was ending, one of my friends suggested that the word "retirement" be replaced with "redirection." This has turned out to be the most accurate description of this time of my life. New direction has sent me into areas I never dreamed I'd be. The summer and early school year have been overtaken with building a new career for myself, a career in sales. Who knew? My part time position with Express Industries came completely out of the blue. However, I've been told that just because something is a surprise to us, does not make it a surprise to God. Now that I have become a successful rookie fundraising consultant, Steve and I have ventured into another area of business ownership. Another "out of the blue" moment offered us the chance to become Treasure Tower franchise owners. Another area in school sales. Steve and I work together, plan together, travel together - just what we've dreamed of. For once, we are on the same team and God is blessing. Through this transition period, I have become mindful of the fact that God has plans for us that we cannot possibly have conceive for ourselves. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own understanding. Let Him be your heart of hearts and He will lead your every step." (Proverbs according to Kathy.)
